From the Pastor
Meet Pastor Calvin Kapels
Pastor Cal was born and raised in Columbus Nebraska on a family farm that has been in the family for over 130 years. A few hundred yards across the cornfield was St. John's Lutheran Church and School where he attended from pre-school through 8th grade. It was during his time at St. Johns, and especially during confirmation that Cal first felt God calling him to be a pastor when he grew up.
After graduating high school, Cal accepted a scholarship to attend the University of Nebraska Omaha where he was an Academic and Athletic All American on the Mavs Basketball Team. After graduating with a degree in Business Management and Marketing, Cal spent five years in sales and marketing. He was a District Manager for ADP before joining a Pharmaceutical company where he managed a vast territory and helped launch several new products. It was during this time that he felt God was again calling him to become a pastor.
So in the Summer of 2011, Cal and his wife Melissa left everything in Nebraska and moved to St. Louis with their one-year old son, Colston, to attend Concordia Seminary. The four-year long program at the Seminary not only prepared Cal to become a pastor, but it grew him and his family in their faith and love for God and love and care for others.
After graduation from Concordia Seminary in 2015, Pastor Cal was Called to serve at St. Stephen Lutheran Church in Liberty Missouri. For almost five years, Pastor Cal served and cared for the people there as they grew together in Christ and reached out to their community with the love of Jesus. At the end of 2019, God would once again be leading Pastor Cal to make a move as he joyfully and humbly accepted the Call to serve as Pastor at Christ Lutheran Church and School! He and his family are so grateful and excited to be joining the Christ Lutheran family!
Cal is married to his best friend and most inspirational person he knows, Melissa, who is from Olathe Kansas. They have four energetic children who will be attending Christ Lutheran School, Colston (10), Linny (8), Della (6), and Callan (3).
As a family they enjoy many sporting activities, outdoor activities, and anything where they can meet new people and build friendships. They are a very God loving and energetic family that strives to glorify God in all they do!
